Role of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor γ and Estrogen Receptors in Mediating the Anti-Mitogenic Actions of Phytoestrogens

چکیده
Most Western countries face high and increasing rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Each year, heart disease kills more people than cancer. The increasing risk of CVD in woman after postmenopausal changes suggests that estrogen has cardioprotective effects. It is well known that estrogen binds to estrogen receptors (ER) and mediates its effects via different pathways and thereby influences various systems in the male and female physiology. Phytoestrogens, natural constituents of many plants, seeds and grains are oestrogen like ligands with numerous effects to the human body. They are similar to estrogens and bind to ERs, they are supposed to mimic the effects of estrogens and mediate these acitivities via ERs. However, recent findings suggest that phytoestrogens bind to PPARγ receptors. Together with the fact, that the protective effects of the phytoestrogen genistein are not blocked by ER antagonist and that PPARγ agonists are also cardioprotective we investigated, whether the protective action of phytoestrogens may be PPARγ mediated. Role of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha and gamma in antiangiogenic effect of pomegranate peel extract
Objective(s): Herbal medicines are promising cancer preventive candidates. It has been shown that Punica granatum L. could inhibit angiogenesis and tumor invasion. In this study, we investigated whether the anti-angiogenic effect of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) is partly attributable to Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) activation in the Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cell...
متن کاملCompare the Effect of Eicosapentaenoic Acid and Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein on the Expression of CD36 and Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma
Background: There is evidence that CD36 promotes foam cell formation through internalizing oxidized LDL (ox-LDL) into macrophages therefore, it plays a key role in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. In addition, CD36 expression seems to be mediated by nuclear receptor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ). The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare the effect of ...

Objective(s):This study examined whether conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation affects insulin sensitivity and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) and glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT-4) protein expressions in the skeletal muscles of rats during endurance exercise. Materials and Methods:Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into HS (high-fat diet (HFD) s...

Objective(s): To investigate the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors gamma (PPARG) with essential hypertension (EH) and additional role of gene– high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) interaction. Materials and Methods:A total of 1640 patients with EH (806 males, 834 females), with a mean age of 52.5±12.6 years, were selec...
متن کاملThe effect of Nordic training on plasma levels of Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1-α and Sirtuin 6 in elderly women with diabetes
Introduction: Nordic walking training has many benefits in improving the condition of the disabled elderly. Then the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Nordic walking training on plasma levels of PGC1α and SIRT6 in elderly women with diabetes. Materials and Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 27 elderly women (age: 65.45±2.70 years) with type 2 diabetes were selected and ran...
